Terrapolis – Transversal Worlds, Posthuman Futures
May – December 2025
Terrapolis – Transversal Worlds, Posthuman Futures is a program that explores the connections between contemporary art, ecology, and collective practices through a widespread, participatory, and site-specific format taking place across the Bologna area between May and December 2025.
Now in its fifth edition, Terrapolis seeks to activate new synergies between artists and communities through a collaborative, non-extractive model. It aims to support spaces of social interaction as active centers of cultural production and ecological care, involving associations, collectives, and citizens in a shared process.
From May to December, the program will include two cycles of artist residencies focused on the dialogue between arts & ecology, a series of co-designed events with independent local groups, an independent publishing festival, and—its central moment—Terrapolis – Transversal Ecologies Festival, which for the first time will take place entirely in the Bolognese Apennines, in Castiglione dei Pepoli, in collaboration with Appennino Sound, Boschilla, No Glucose Collective, and Officina15.
The program unfolds across various neighborhoods and green areas of the city: multidisciplinary workshops, talks, community dinners, screenings, and performances will take place in local spaces, enhancing existing relationships and initiating new ones. Adiacenze, Arvaia, Associazione Farm, Associazione Orlando – Women’s Library, Casa di Quartiere Fondo Comini, Fuori Sedia, Le Visionarie, Ottovolante, Porta Pratello, and Super Ravone are among the organizations involved, and every event arises from a co-creation process between artists, citizens, and associations. The aim is to support site-specific artistic practices, promote accessible culture, and collectively reflect on the environmental impact of cultural production.
Over the years, Terrapolis has grown in a rhizomatic way, seeking to provide spaces for dialogue between contemporary artistic practices and ecological, decolonial, and gender-related issues. The guiding theme of this edition is posthuman convergence, a concept theorized by Rosi Braidotti, which we see today as one of the most urgent keys to understanding the present and rethinking the roles of art and critical thought.

Terrapolis is part of Bologna Estate 2025, the programme of activities promoted and coordinated by municipality of Bologna and the Metropolitan City of Bologna – Bologna-Modena Tourist Territory.
