dal giardino – riconciliarsi con il selvatico (from the garden – reconciling with the wild)
Talk and presentation with Cosimo Terlizzi
Fondo Comini, via Fioravanti 68
Ten years have passed since the artist Cosimo Terlizzi began to create a garden within his land, once a monoculture of olive trees, in Carovigno (Brindisi).
Terlizzi dedicated his research to re-establishing a possible balance in what had become a land poor in biodiversity threatened by the advance of new pathogens, in a man-made countryside devoted to production.
The volume dal giardino – riconciliarsi con il selvatico (From the garden – reconciling with the wild), in which the texts alternate with photographs of the garden in the making, thus recounts a quest born of the need to rediscover the possibility of a relationship between species, to imagine it and live it.

Cosimo Terlizzi (1973) is a visual artist. He lives and works in Apulia. Since the mid-1990s, in Bologna, he has been experimenting with the use of different media, from photography to performance, from installation to video. His expressive research is mainly characterised by the use of media that are considered amateurish, finding in them a coherence with the necessary thrust of poetics and an immediacy freed from the usual production costs and times.
His works have been exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, MamBo in Bologna, Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, Fondazione Merz in Turin, Galleria Civica d’Arte Contemporanea in Trento, MACRO and Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, National Museum of Breslavia in Poland. For cinema he has directed works presented at the Rotterdam Int. Film Festival, Festival d’Automne in Paris, Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, Biennale Danza in Venice, Torino Film Festival, Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata, London Int. Documentary Festival, International Film Festival in Rome.
In 2018 he made his first fiction feature film, Dei, and from 2019 to 2020 he was the artistic director of Asolo Art Film Festival. In 2015 he created with Damien Modolo, in Carovigno (Puglia), Lamia Santolina a space for study and research in contemporary creation that interrogates the ecosystemicationships of the natural environment, organising botanical garden visits, workshops, artistic residencies and cultural events.
The event is hosted as part of the Book Espress exhibition curated by Libreria Sette Volpi.
