STRANGE STRANGERS
Exhibition by Esther Gatón, Caterina Gobbi, and Sofia Albina Novikoff Unger May 12th – June 5th 2022
Opening May 12th, 2022 at 6.30 pm

Starting from a Mont Blanc glacier, passing through a London car wash, and arriving at a digital pond, the artists on display operate a reconfiguration of elements and textures, organizing complex systems in such a way that matter itself suggests a shift from what it is to what it can be. The exhibition is made up of polymorphic beings, organic and inorganic assemblages, and continuous changes in scale and state.

The works presented underline the importance of sumpoiesis and metamorphosis through a multiform representation that breaks from the strictly vegetable world, not as a narrative mode, but rather for the use of forms directly related to it. The artists work with different found materials to create scenarios and possible worlds and suggest that a reconfiguration of the elements that constitute what we define as present is not only possible but necessary.

Strange stranger is everything that is other than us but also our own being other, as Timothy Morton suggests by stating that: “for us, other life forms are strangers whose foreignness is irreducible.[…] Strange strangers are simultaneously disturbing, familiar, and alienating. Their familiarity is itself alienating, and their being alienating is familiar.” Between them there is an intimacy that, Morton continues, “needs to think and practice fragility, rather than domination, fragmentation, rather than holism, and deconstructive uncertainty, rather than aggressive assertion, multiplying differences, growing through complete reification.”

Thanks to the collaboration between Parsec and Ombre Lunghe will also be organized, Saturday, May 14, 2022, an event within the spaces of AtelierSi, designed specifically to expand the focus of the exhibition with the performance Had there been anyone to listen to Caterina Gobbi and live Sebastiano Carghini (Total Stasis) with his latest album As Long As I Go, which will be followed by the DJ set by Giesse.
